You own your home - fantastic!
If we are going to get ahead on climate change, we have to upgrade and update the heating in our homes by making the switch to heat pumps - a smart and simple tech that takes heat naturally stored in the air or ground, compresses it and pumps it into homes. We all have a role to play - and as a homeowner, you’ve got a couple of options:
Option 1. Get yourself a heat pump
Right now there’s a government scheme available called the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). Once you’ve paid for your heat pump and it’s been installed and registered, the government will send you payments for the next seven years. These payments will often cover most or all of the initial cost. This scheme ends in March 2022, so you’ll need to get your skates on. Find an MCS certified installer here to give you a quote and get the ball rolling.
Option 2. Join our heat pump waiting list - to show the government the public are ready.
Not in a position to get yourself a heat pump yet? You’re not alone. Until recently, homeowners in England could access government grants that would contribute to the upfront costs of installing a heat pump. But in March, this vital financial support was canned - leaving heat pumps out of reach for most of us.
By the 2030s, everyone should be benefittng from this new technology - families, pensioners, people living on a low income. It is time this government stepped up. But
This government’s plans to support the switch to clean heat from March next year are woefully inadequate - . Although the new Clean Heat Grants will help people with the upfront cost of a heat pump, they’re only providing just enough money to help a fraction of homes in the UK install heat pumps. Without serious investment from this government, clean heating will still only be available for those who can fork out the upfront costs (typically between £9,000 and £11,000, according to the Energy Saving Trust).
Add your name to our ‘waiting list’ to show this government that you want your home to be part of the solution to climate change, but first they need to put the policies in place to make them affordable to all.
