Play our newly-launched climate action board game
Have you ever looked at our efforts to reach net zero and thought you could do better? A new edition of Possible’s climate-related deck building game will give you the chance to do just that – and hopefully set an example for the real world.
Carbon City Zero: World Edition is a brand new edition of our climate action game which allows 1-4 people (aged 8+) to work together in developing a sustainable city through transport, industry, and getting their citizens on board.
It requires negotiation and collaboration to balance the need to generate income and ensure no one gets left behind while also reducing carbon emissions.
Reaching net zero is the primary goal of the game – and you have to get there before it's too late. The stakes couldn’t be higher.
The game is perfect for both families, friends, and all manner of board-game enthusiasts, offering a chance to learn about climate action as you play.
We originally launched Carbon City Zero in 2019 through a Kickstarter campaign in collaboration with co-designers Sam Illingworth and Paul Wake, lecturers at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The new version of Carbon City Zero is now optimised for cooperative gameplay rather than forcing players to compete with each other – after all, reaching net zero requires every one of us to work together and reduce our emissions, both from the top down and the bottom up.
We have also introduced a wider range of challenges and resources, commissioned 15 new card images, completely redesigned the cards, improving accessibility and gameplay.
The game is available to buy now for £25 from games publisher Laurence King, who we have been working together with to bring this to life. The new edition has been “responsibly repackaged” with fully recyclable and carbon neutral materials.
We encourage everyone to organise a game night with their family, friends, or partners, to learn more about climate action and how we can make a difference with Carbon City Zero.
