We did it - onshore wind is officially unblocked!
We’re celebrating huge news for our climate - the new chancellor Rachel Reeves, has just lifted the ban on onshore wind!*
After years of campaigning, we can finally make the most of the UK’s blustery weather and say hello to cheap, locally-produced, clean energy across the UK.
This is a huge step forward for our climate, economy and energy bills - and exactly what we've been calling for.
It has been a long time coming and, let’s be honest, it’s not always been easy. But today we can see that people power works.
Thanks to people like you and me speaking up for clean energy and for our climate, this Labour government knew that lifting the ban on onshore wind was a priority for the people of the UK, and took action to show that they’re listening.
So we wanted to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you who got involved with our campaign to unblock onshore wind. Whether you emailed your MP about onshore wind, shared our campaign with your friends and family, or even joined us in Westminster to show politicians that the UK public wants more wind power - you have been part of this.
There’s still a long way to go for our climate, but wins like this show that together, we can get there.
Thank you again,
*Due to policy blocks brought in by David Cameron's government in 2015, it's been all but impossible to get a new onshore wind project started in England for years. This morning, after years of persistent campaigning by people like you and I, Rachel Reeves has changed the planning regulations so that the blocks are no longer standing in the way of new onshore wind projects.
