A new movement of people swapping cars and public transport for active journeys to keep themselves and those around them safe and well.

The campaign

The need for social distancing on public transport as we began to emerge from the first lockdown presented an unparalleled challenge for cities and towns - and the serious risk that streets became even more clogged with cars than they were before the coronavirus outbreak.

More cars means more toxic air, more climate wrecking carbon emissions, more road deaths, more noise, longer traffic jams for essential workers - and less public space. Yet, if people piled back onto trains and buses, those who simply must use them - including key workers - and those who work on them would be put at risk.

But there is another way. For those who could, we launched stride & ride.

Walking, jogging, cycling, skating, scooting, blading, rolling, wheeling, skipping. Together, by choosing to stride or ride from A to B we helped to keep public transport safe, kept carbon emissions down, and helped keep our key workers moving.

The stats…

Over 4,000 people walked or cycled 5 times in a fortnight

1,200 pledged to stride and ride even further - 100km in a month!

2,000 emailed their MPs to push for improved walking and cycling infrastructure
