The British public are big fans of onshore wind power.
Now the government is catching
up too.
Onshore wind is cheap, popular, and a vital part of tackling climate change. In 2015 a group of MPs campaigned against it - and persuaded the government to block onshore wind projects from competing to provide energy for our national grid, and put in place planning regulations which formed an effective ban on new projects in England.
For six years, Possible has been fighting to bring back onshore wind and in 2020 we got a big win.
On 2nd March 2020, after years of campaigning by our amazing supporters, the government announced that they’ll once again open energy contracts to onshore wind projects. This was a huge step forward.
In 2022, due to the energy crisis and international conflict, the government wrote an energy security statement and for weeks before it was published, it looked like they were going to go big on onshore wind. But again a cohort of MPs put a stop to it meaning the cheapest, cleanest and most immediate form of energy that could be brought online couldn’t start making the huge positive impact to the people of the UK that we all know it can.
The people of the UK love onshore wind, let’s make sure that government knows and acts on that.
