Ten reasons to feel proud about 2024
As 2024 wraps up, we’re taking a moment to reflect on everything you made possible this year. Spoiler alert: it’s a lot, and we’re pretty chuffed about it.
From big wins on wind to creating new green spaces for communities, 2024 has been a standout year for climate action. And it’s all thanks to people like you who care about building a greener future.
Regular gifts are the driving force behind every climate win. If you’re able to, consider setting up a regular donation today. It’s the best way to keep the momentum going and power even bigger climate action in 2025.
So, before we gear up for an even bigger, bolder 2025, we wanted to say a special thank you, and celebrate all that we’ve achieved together this year.
Here’s what we did together in 2023:
Onshore wind was finally unblocked.
Thanks to people like you speaking up, the government lifted the ban on onshore wind. After years of campaigning, we can finally make the most of the UK’s blustery weather and say hello to cheap, locally-produced, clean energy across the UK.
2. The government listened to us on clean heat.
Taking our advice, the government stepped up and expanded support for larger clean heat projects — a win for slashing emissions and turning up the heat on greener, cleaner homes. It's proof that practical solutions can make a real difference!
3. Private jets were finally taxed.
After 1,000 of you flooded MPs’ inboxes, the government finally slapped a tax on private jets — a small step for fairness, a giant leap towards grounding the sky-high emissions of the super-rich.
4. We opened two new parklets.
Hackney welcomed its first-ever estate parklet, turning a car-dominated space into a vibrant community hub. Over in Waltham Forest, another green gem popped up, giving residents more room to relax, connect, and enjoy their streets.
5. We championed anti-oppression in the climate movement
This year, we launched our report on anti-oppression, shining a spotlight on creating a more inclusive climate movement. To celebrate, 100 changemakers joined us at an event full of inspiring discussions and big ideas for a fairer, greener future.
6. Care workers hit the headlines
We helped highlight their struggles to access EVs, making the case for a social leasing scheme to get these everyday heroes behind the wheel of cleaner, greener cars.
7. Fixing took centre stage.
Our Fixing Factory family grew to 37 volunteers, and we were awarded funding for three new locations — gearing us up for more repairs and less waste in 2025. Want to join the fun? Check out our Fixperience Workshops and learn how to fix like a pro, or apply for one of our volunteering positions.
8. London’s cabbies joined the climate fight.
We launched Cabbies for the Climate with the LTDA to help black cab drivers switch to electric vehicles. By pushing for government support and better charging infrastructure, we’re making cleaner, greener streets a reality for London.
9. Ads for polluters got banned
Thanks to our Badvertising campaign, Sheffield and Edinburgh councils stopped high-carbon advertising, clearing their cities of polluting billboards. This means no more ads promoting polluting products like SUVs and airlines — a breath of fresh air for everyone who lives there!
10. Over 1000 people went car-free in Oxford.
We challenged drivers to embrace the challenge for one month, swapping cars for greener commutes and showing how we can reimagine healthier, cleaner streets.
This year has given us plenty to celebrate, but it hasn’t been without its hurdles. With shifting political priorities and unfulfilled climate promises, it’s easy to feel disheartened. But you didn’t slow down — you stepped up, helping to drive real climate progress when it mattered most.
If you’re inspired by what we’ve done together, help us keep the momentum going in 2025. Setting up a regular gift today could be the first step to even bigger climate wins next year.
Whatever the year-end brings for you, we hope it’s filled with rest, joy, and time to reflect on all the incredible things you’ve helped achieve for the planet.
Let's make 2025 the biggest year for climate action yet. Thank you for standing with us, we couldn’t do it without you.
