Electric Dreams
‘Electrify everything’ has become something of a rallying cry in some corners of the energy world. Wind and solar power prices have rapidly decreased, and it has become clear that we are more than capable of running grids on a generation mix that is dominated by intermittent renewables.
One of the hardest sectors to decarbonise is transport, but it is hoped that electrification, coupled with a very low carbon electricity supply, could deliver major benefits in terms of carbon mitigation, noise reduction and air quality improvements.
In this report we make an attempt to evaluate the potential for electric aircraft to contribute to reductions in the sector’s greenhouse gas emissions.
